"European Green Capital"

Dr. Wiebke Borgers, Heiner Bruns, Janina Austermann, Stadtdirektor Hartwig Schultheiß, Oberbürgermeister Dr. Berthold Tillmann

Seeing that Münster belongs to the eight cities being on the short list for the award, we handed in an application of 100 pages in Brussels in the beginning of December 2008.
On 12th and 13th January some of the shortlisted cities had the chance to present their cities in front of an expert commission of the European Union and to hobnob with the commission. The presentation of Münster was a mixture between a film and a PPP.

The Münster Delegation included the First Mayor Dr. Berthold Tillmann, the Chief Executive Hartwig Schultheiß, the head of department for green spaces and environmental protection Heiner Bruns, Dr. Wiebke Borgers from the PR Department and by the student Janina Austermann as the spokesperson of the youth council of Münster.

Münster – green at heart. Have a look!

Münster, in the very heart of Europe, is a city with 280.000 inhabitants and 160 different nationalities. 50 000 students are enrolled in eight colleges and universities.
The city was awarded the title "Most livable city worldwide" in 2004. At the same time, Münster holds the titles "Climate Capital of Germany", "Most child-friendly city" and "Cycling Capital".

There are three good reasons why Münster could serve as a role model for environmentally friendly communities in Europe:

Münster is highly motivated to help turn the European "Thematic Strategy of the Urban Environment" into reality, and to kindle the "green spirit" all over Europe.

Münster – green at heart!
