The most important task is the consolidation and development of Münster as the "city of education and science". All the protagonists and groups in the city are working together to ensure this objective is achieved in the "City of Science" network. Thus the city, various universities and local industry in close cooperation have developed the "Wissenschaftspark" for institutions that focus on science and young company founders from universities. The Technologiepark has been created for growing companies from the life science and information and telecommunications technology sectors.

The Wissenschaftspark and the Technologiepark are in the immediate vicinity of the Natural Science center of the University, the University clinics, the University of Applied Science and the Leonardo campus. The following institutions belong to it:

The Technologiepark Münster is a centre for innovation-oriented business start-ups and practice-oriented business transfers. The centre has 60 young businesses at the interface between science and industry as well as transfer and consulting facilities.

  • The Technologiehof (technology yard) - this service institution offers technology-oriented company startups (virtually) everything to make business easier for young companies. Ranging from the canteen to modern offices and extending to the academic consultancy.
  • The Technology Parks – rapid growth companies find developed plots of land and extensive rental floor space here. An extension of some 25 hectares is currently being planned due to the high demand.
  • Das Zentrum für Nanotechnologie (Centre of Nanotechnology) - It motivates people active in the fields of research to economically implement their ideas. In addition the center helps companies that are already active to grow. For example by means of high-tech laboratories that meet the highest international standards.
  • The Max-Planck Institute for molecular biomedicine – it was founded in 2001, at present an in-house building in the Science park is being built for the Institute.

The joint efforts have ensured that Münster is now one of the leading nanobiotechnology locations in the world. The German-Chinese Center for Nanotechnology also has its headquarters here.
