Issue of a travel ID for refugees, foreigners or stateless individuals

The travel IDs have been issued by the Federal Printing Office in Berlin since November 2007. You should approach us to apply for one of these documents, and will require a biometric passport photo in order to do so.

If you wish to obtain a travel ID for foreigners, you must prove that you were unable to obtain a national passport in a reasonable manner. Proof of this must be provided in the form of a written confirmation from your local authorities and / or embassy.

At present, the fee charged for the issue of a travel ID is as much as 59 €.

It may take up to six weeks for the document to be issued. If you are intending to travel in the near future, please check whether your travel ID is still valid in good time.
